About these terms
These terms cover the Elevate product website and describe the conditions for using the Elevate apps and command-line tool. Elevate is a free, open-source project maintained by Frode Hus. It is an independent project, not affiliated with or endorsed by Microsoft or Apple.
Elevate is a client for Microsoft Entra and Azure privileged identity management. It is not a hosted identity service and does not grant access independently of your organization’s Microsoft tenant.
Your software license
Elevate’s software and associated documentation are provided under the MIT license. That license governs your rights to use, copy, modify and distribute the software, including its copyright-notice requirement.
These website terms do not replace or restrict rights granted by the MIT license. Third-party components remain subject to their respective licenses.
Using privileged access responsibly
Use Elevate only with accounts, tenants and resources you are authorized to access. You are responsible for the actions you request, the roles and durations you select, and compliance with your organization’s policies and applicable law.
Review the account, tenant, scope and justification before submitting an activation or approval. Keep your device and authentication credentials protected. Do not use the website or project services to attempt unauthorized access, distribute malicious content or interfere with other users.
Elevate does not bypass eligibility, consent, MFA, Conditional Access or approval requirements. Consent to an app registration does not itself make a user an administrator.
Microsoft services and organizational policies
You are responsible for any Microsoft licenses, tenant configuration, permissions and administrator consent required for your use. Microsoft services, GitHub and any other linked services have their own terms and policies.
Availability and results depend on your network, your device, tenant policies and third-party APIs. A request may fail, be delayed or require further approval. Confirm important access changes with your organization’s authoritative systems.
Availability, updates and support
Elevate is provided as an open-source project, without a service-level agreement or a promise of uninterrupted availability, ongoing maintenance or suitability for a particular task. Features, documentation and distribution methods may change.
The optional shared Elevate app registration that the project publishes for quick starts and testing is offered on the same basis: it carries no service-level agreement, may change or be withdrawn at any time, and is not a substitute for a registration your organization controls. Organizations that need control over scopes, redirect URIs or lifetime should register their own app, as described in the shared app registration guide.
Use current releases and review installation instructions and release notes. The security policy describes supported versions and private vulnerability reporting.
Warranty and liability
To the extent permitted by applicable law, the software is provided “as is,” without warranties, and the authors’ and copyright holders’ liability is limited as described in the MIT license. The website and its information are also provided without a guarantee of accuracy, completeness or availability.
Nothing in these terms excludes liability or limits consumer or other statutory rights that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
Changes and contact
Updates to these terms will appear on this page with a revised date. Changes do not retroactively remove rights granted under the MIT license.
